Men's Wrestling Competes in First Duals of the Season at Olivet

OLIVET, Mich. – The Alma College men's wrestling team traveled to The University of Olivet for their first duals of the season at the Comet Duals. The Scots were defeated in their three matchups for the day falling 33-14 to Heidelberg University, 33-10 to the University of Mount Union, and 36-12 to Ohio Northern University. 

In Alma's first dual of the day, three Scots wrestlers were able to score victories over their opponents. Tyler Demory, wrestling in the 125 division, put Alma on the board first winning his match over Brenden Yob by tech fall (19-3), giving the Scots an early lead. Cael Dempsey was the next Alma wrestler that found himself in the win column as he defeated Claude Buckmaster by fall in 3:43. The last victorious wrestler for Alma against the Student Princes was Samuel Rickman, who was able to defeat Nathan St. Bernard by decision (7-4), giving Alma their 14 points for the dual. 

Some different faces were able to score wins in Alma's second dual of the day against the Purple Raiders. The first Scot to pick up a win against Mount Union was Trent Braman, who wrestled at 174. Braman won his match by major decision (12-3) over Caleb Zimmerman, which put the first points on the board in the dual for Alma. Brody Miskimon was the other wrestler for the Scots that was able to score a win, his coming by fall over Jimir Fraizer in only 1:57. 

In Alma's last dual of the day, Dempsey was able to record his second win of the day as another new face recorded a win on the day as well. Dempsey, a 149 wrestler, recorded his second win of the day fall over Dru Baker by fall in 5:22, scoring Alma's first points against the Polar Bears. Owen Atienza was the additional wrestler that scored a win in the final dual of the day. Atienza was able to defeat Jayden Jones by fall in 2:46, and scoring the final points of the day for Alma.

The Scots will look to rebound from the weekend on Saturday, December 2nd as they will travel to Ohio Northern for the ONU Invitational in Ada, Ohio. The tournament is set to begin at 9:00 AM.
