Volleyball Ends Regular Season Against Trine

Angola, IN – Alma College Volleyball took to Indiana to take on the Thunder of Trine University in their regular season finale. Despite a valiant effort, Alma was downed 3-2.

It was a back and forth affair, with the teams trading sets all the way through. The opener saw Trine jump out to a 4-1 lead early, only for Alma to rally and take the lead at 6-5. The teams fought point-for-point until a run by Trine put Alma's backs against the wall at 24-22. The Scots forced a tie, but lost in extra action 28-26.

The second set was Alma's from the start, the visitors hopped out to a 7-2 lead, and didn't look back. Alma weathered a 5-point run from Trine, and used a 5-point run of their own to end the set at 25-18. The Scots battled hard in the third set, but Trine caught fire, using a 14-3 run to take the set at 25-13. The visiting side pulled out a 3-point lead, and leveraged that into a 25-22 set win, forcing a fifth set.

Trine picked up the early lead at 6-3, forcing an Alma timeout. Despite the best effort of the Scots, they weren't able to pull even with Trine, dropping the set 15-11, and the game.

Brooke LeRoux totaled 16 kills in the loss, with Callie Smith grabbing 11, and Reagan Thorr 9. Lexi Dykstra added 42 assists, just one shy of her career best. Also finishing one off their career high was Kolbey Boyd, who totaled 32 digs. Dykstra also dug out 17 attacks, and LeRoux 13. Madison Munley led blocking efforts with 3 total blocks. 

The Scots finish their regular season at 13-12. Alma finishes at 2-6 in MIAA play.
