GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Alma College men's basketball team faced off against Calvin University on Saturday, January 7th. The Scots fell to the knights by a final score of 71-51.

Alma got off to a hot start and went back-and-forth with the Knights to open the game. The Scots took a four-point lead seven minutes into gameplay thanks to multiple baskets from behind the arc. Calvin would then go on a 13-0 run to regain and establish a lead of their own. The Knights would keep their momentum going into the half and take a 28-46 lead.

The Scots looked to bounce back and tighten things up to start the half, but Calvin held their ground. Both teams struggled in the second half, Alma shot just over 21% from the field while the Knights only shot 25% coming out of the break. The final eight minutes of the first half proved to be the determining factor in this game and Alma would drop their first conference contest by a score of 71-51, moving to 1-1 in conference play.

Connor Riley continued his strong season performances, scoring 15 points to lead Alma for the day. Tyshaun Walker scored 11 to follow behind Riley. Colton Meister brought in seven rebounds for a team high. Nate Deyman collected four steals in the contest and Walker shot 3-5 (60%) from behind the arc for the game.

The Scots next matchup will be on Wednesday, January 11th, when they host Adrian College at Art Smith Arena. The game will tipoff at 7:30 p.m.
