Box Score KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Alma College men's basketball team opened MIAA conference play on the road in Kalamazoo on Wednesday, January 4th. Alma was victorious over Kalamazoo College by a final score of 75-58, with four players recording double-digit point totals.
Starting off the game, Alma knocked down a three from Tyshaun Walker to gain an early lead as both teams traded baskets. Each team stayed within one possession of one another until the eight-minute mark of the first half, where Alma took a four-point lead on a layup from Colton Meister. The Scots would then extend their lead with a 8-0 run following the Meister bucket to take a ten point lead with just under seven minutes remaining. Kalamazoo would claw back and bring the score within four, but the Scots would extend it back to ten at the half.
Starting the second half, the Hornets would not back down and hung in there with the Scots. Alma would hold a several possession lead throughout the first ten minutes of the second half until a Nate Deyman basket from beyond the arc would push their lead to 14, giving them enough breathing room over Kalamazoo. In the final minutes of gameplay, Alma would take their largest lead of the night by twenty points and ultimately close out the game with a win over the Hornets.
The Scots points leader for the night was Connor Riley, who ended the night with 20 points. Three other Scots were also in the double-digits in points including Landen Moore-Pierce with 16, Nate Deyman with 13, and Meister with 12 on the night. Meister also collected a game high 11 rebounds to end the night with a double-double. Moore-Pierce ted the team with three assists and Meister had three blocks.
Alma will now look to keep their momentum rolling throughout conference play as they take on Calvin University on Saturday, January 7th. Tipoff at Van Noord Arena is set for 3:00 p.m.
