Women's Basketball Hangs Tough, Falls to #5 Hope

Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Basketball got back to conference play on Wednesday night. Alma hosted Hope College, who was ranked at #5 in the nation coming into the contest. Alma was defeated by a final of 88-62.

The Scots played a competitive first quarter. Alma jumped out to an 11-6 advantage, and played basket for basket with the visitors throughout most of the first quarter. After one, Hope led 23-18. The second quarter began as a defensive quarter, with neither team able to take the lid off the bucket consistently. Alma was hanging tough, but Hope got hot late in the quarter, and pulled away. In the blink of an eye, a one possession game turned into a 20 point Flying Dutch lead at the half.

Alma came out firing in the third quarter. Alma used a 7-0 run to spark a huge offensive quarter. Although Hope eventually caught back up to the Scots, they hit a barrage of threes in a 26 point quarter, outgunning Hope 26-24. The visitors would pull away in the 4th, bringing the final to 88-62.

Olivia Warren led Alma with 14 points, also chipping in 3 rebounds, and an assist. Brooke Leroux also tallied 14 points on 3-6 shooting from downtown. Taylor Sas added 11 more, also grabbing 4 rebounds, and dishing 3 assists. Maddie Robbins scored just 3 points, but handed out 9 assists to aid the Scots offense.

Alma drops to 2-2 in conference play, and will be on the road at Calvin on Saturday, with tipoff set for 1 PM.
