ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College men's wrestling team hosted their first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) conference dual of the year against nationally ranked opponent Olivet College. The Comets are ranked 11th in the nation in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll. The Scots were taken down by the Comets by a final score of 46-3.
Picking up the lone points of the night for the Scots was Will Vernier who won his match by decision, 6-4. Vernier collected a couple escapes and takedowns to hold on for a narrow victory that went all three periods over Zach Potter at 174 pounds. This is Vernier's second win over an Olivet opponent this year as he took down Charles Wilks by fall earlier in the season at the Ohio Northern Invitational.
The Scots look to rebound moving forward as they travel to Pennsylvania this weekend to participate in the Waynesburg University Invitational. Matches are set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
