Depth Shines as Women's Basketball Downs Kalamazoo

Alma, MI – Alma College Women's Basketball took on Kalamazoo at home in MIAA play on Saturday. The Scots were victorious by a final of 82-39.

Defense was the name of the game for Alma in the first half. The Scots held the Hornets to 8 and 6 points in the opening quarters to jump out to a sizeable 40-14 lead at the break. When the two teams returned from the locker room, Kalamazoo started to break into the scoring column. Alma was more than ready to answer the call, scoring 42 more points in the second half to increase the margin between the teams. In the end, the Scots were on top by a final of 82-39.

Alma got production from every player who touched the court. Taylor Sas and Brooke LeRoux each tallied 15 points to lead the scoring efforts. Sas added 2 rebounds and 2 assists, while LeRoux fell just one board short of a double-double with a game high 9 rebounds. Olivia Warren was the leading passer for Alma, dishing out 7 assists to a Scots team that shot 46% from the floor. Also making notable contributions were Malorie Rzepka and Mogan Hanchett, who each tallied 11 points, with Hanchett draining a trio of 3 pointers.

Alma notches their second win in a row. This win allows the Scots to tighten their grip on an MIAA tournament berth, now holding a 2-game lead over Saint Mary's for the final playoff spot.

The Scots will be back in action when they host Calvin on Wednesday.
