Women's Basketball Battles, Comes Up Short Against #11 Trine

Box Score

Alma, MI – Alma. Women's Basketball hosted the Thunder of Trine on Wednesday evening. Alma fought valiantly, but fell to the 11th ranked Thunder by a final of 66-53.

The Scots fell behind early, but battled in a low scoring first quarter. After 1, Alma trailed by 5. The defense picked up for the Scots in the 2nd quarter, and shots started fall. The Thunder were held to 14 points, and Alma was able to find ways to score to bring things level at 30 at the half.

Out of the half, the 11th ranked team in the country got red hot, and Alma found a lid on the basket. A 12-0 run to open the half would prove to be the difference in the game. A 24-8 third quarter would give way to a 15-12 fourth quarter for Alma to close out the game. In the end, the score stood at 66-53 in favor of the visitors.

It was another game of great signs for a Scots team that looks to return at least 4 of it's 5 starters next season. Taylor Sas led with 17 points on 4-5 shooting from three point land, and 3 assists. It was also a coming out party for Freshman Breckyn Werner. She scored 14 points with 4 rebounds to help the Scots efforts. Also chipping in 8 points was Izzy Alston, who also ended up with a pair of blocks on the night.

Alma will be back in action on Saturday on the road at Olivet. Tipoff is set for 1 PM.
