Scots fall to Thunder in annual Pink Game

ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College men's basketball team hosted the Trine University Thunder on Saturday, Feb. 5. The Scots lost to the Thunder, 62-56. 

Trine had an eight-point lead over Alma with five minutes remaining in the first half. Alma would proceed to go on a 9-0 run to regain the lead with three minutes remaining. Both teams swapped the lead for the next two and half minutes until Trine would hit a three-pointer to end the half leading 33-31 over the Scots.  

Trine again extended its lead after halftime, but the Scots tied the game at multiple points and eventually regained the lead. Ultimately in the closing minutes, Trine got the defensive stops they needed to down the Scots in a redemption game for the Thunder.  

Leading the scoring for the Scots was Cole Kleiver with 13 points. Landen Moore-Pierce followed behind Kleiver with 12 points of his own. Brandon Rake led Alma with 12 rebounds, with four coming on offense. Xavier Bargesser collected 10 rebounds with four on offense also. Gabe Bourdeau and Moore-Pierce both had four assists for the Scots. Alma outrebounded the Thunder ,38-30. Alma racked up 14 assists as a team. 

This contest was played in honor of Alma College Women's Basketball coach Keisha Brown, who founded the Angel Wings Foundation after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. Donations were collected and t-shirts were sold at Saturday's contest and all proceeds went to the Angel Wings Foundation.  

The Scots next game will be on Wednesday, Feb. 9, against Calvin University. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. in the Van Noord Arena.
