ADRIAN, Mich. – The Alma College wrestling team traveled to Central Regionals on Friday, Feb. 25, for two days of competition at Adrian College.
Alma finished the regional in 17th place with 18 points. Jayce Kuehnlein, who entered as the number five seed of 20 wrestlers at 157 pounds, finished at his seeded fifth position.
In the tournament, Kuehnlein's only losses were to the 2020 and 2022 regional champions, as he posted two major decisions, a technical fall, and a fall. In his final match of his decorated career, Kuehnlein came back from a 6-2 deficit to take a 7-6 lead before pinning his Olivet College opponent Romiro Guerrero in 6:09.
"It was an emotional moment when Jayce left the mat. Even coaches from other institutions were approaching him with congratulations
on a stellar career, but importantly to recognize his incredible character and example in the sport of wrestling," head coach Todd Hibbs said. "An MIAA Sportsman of the Year, he's one of the best we've ever had at Alma College."
