ALBION, Mich.— The Alma College Women's Basketball team started the MIAA tournament off with a win against Albion College in overtime. The Scots finished the game with a final score of 78-74.
The Britons had the edge over Alma for the majority of the game until the Scots took the lead with four-minutes left in the fourth quarter at 60-58. This edge was taken back quick by Albion, but Alma stayed within reach. The Scots found themselves ahead with 18 seconds left but the Britons made a jump shot to push the game into overtime at 70-70.
Overtime started with a small lead from Albion but Alma responded to tie the game with a jump shot from Taylor Sas. The Scots continued this lead until the final buzzer to send them to the semifinals over the MIAA Tournament.
Sas led the Scots with 26 points, seven defensive rebounds, and four assists. Stasha Warchock followed close behind with 20 points. Maddie Robbins added 12 points and five assists. Kendall Griffioen had nine rebounds on the day.
Next Alma advances to the semifinals to play number one seed Trine University on Friday, Feb. 25.
