Box Score OLIVET, Mich. — The Alma College men's basketball team traveled to Olivet College on Saturday, Feb. 19, and lost, 90-87, to close out the regular season.
The Scots and Comets battled hard to begin the game and traded the lead several times. Alma went on a 7-0 run in the middle of the first half to extend its lead to nine over the Comets. Olivet went on an 8-0 run to tighten up the game with four minutes remaining in the first half and went into halftime with a five-point lead.
Beginning the second half, Alma would create their own 21-4 run to retake the lead. With four minutes remaining in the game, the Comets created offense efficiently and put together a 18-4 run to take an 87-81 lead with one minute remaining. Alma's Landen Moore-Pierce and Nate Deyman both knocked down last-minute three-pointers to give the Scots a chance, but Olivet made good on their free-throw tries and won and the game in the last seconds.
Leading the way for the Scots was Moore-Pierce and Brandon Rake, each with 22 points. Rake also collected a team-high 13 rebounds. Cole Kleiver and Moore-Pierce both had three assists to lead the team. Alma outrebounded Olivet 49-41.
The Scots will now enter the postseason and travel to Calvin for a MIAA Tournament quarterfinal matchup. Tipoff will be at 7 p.m. what day? in Van Noord Arena.
