ALMA, Mich.—The Alma College Women's Basketball team hosted Adrian College on Wednesday, Feb. 9 and celebrated Senior Night. The Scots came out on top with a 57-49 win.
The first quarter of play started in the Bulldogs' favor with Alma down by seven going into the second. Stasha Warchock and Oretha Humphries each posted five points in the first quarter to keep the Scots within reach.
The second quarter was a more-even matchup, but Adrian took an eight-point lead into halftime, with the score at 33-25. Alma was able to close the gap to a six-point lead in the third quarter at 47-41 going into the final minutes of play.
The Scots tied the game three minutes into the fourth quarter and ran with it. Alma had the offensive edge in the fourth quarter with 16 points and only two from the Bulldogs. Warchock and Olivia Warren led the final quarter with six points each.
Three Scots scored double-digits on the night. Warchock added 14 points and five rebounds. Humphries dropped 12 points on the night with three assists. Olivia Warren scored 10 points, posted six rebounds, and three steals. Kendall Griffioen added two blocks.
"That win says everything about our team and I couldn't be prouder. We struggled offensively, down 15 and we found a way," Head Coach Sami Stormont said.
Stormont went on to praise the three seniors on Alma's team; Oretha Humphries, Sara Lesnesky, and Stasha Warchock.
"Nothing better than a win on senior night. These three seniors have impacted our program in so many ways. They are great competitors, teammates, and people. I can't wait to see all they accomplish in the future," she said.
Alma continues play in Art Smith Arena on Monday, Feb. 14, against Saint Mary's College.
