Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Alma College men's basketball team traveled to Grand Rapids to take on the Calvin University Knights on Wednesday, Feb. 9. The Scots fell to the Knights by a final score of 83-70.
The Scots and Knights hung tight with each other for the first 10 minutes of gameplay. With eight minutes left in the first half, the game was deadlocked at 27-27. Calvin went on a 14-4 run in four minutes to take a 10-point lead over the Scots. The first half ended with Calvin leading, 47-33.
Calvin picked up where they left off entering the second half. Alma was able to keep producing on offense, but not enough to close the gap. Coming down the stretch, Alma knocked down several three-pointers, trying to chip away at Calvin's lead. The Scots would ultimately not have enough time to make up the difference.
Cole Kleiver led the Scots in scoring with 22 points, and in assists with four. Brandon Rake tallied 17 points. Xavier Bargesser collected nine rebounds to lead the Scots, including two offensive boards. Alma shot 50 percent from the field over the span of the game.
Alma will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 12, against Albion College. The game tips off at 3 p.m. at Kresge Gymnasium.
