Box Score Alma, MI – Alma Football took to the field to host Hope College on Community Day at Bahlke Field on Saturday. Alma was victorious over Hope for the first time since 2015. The final score read 28-26.
Alma got on the board first, after a Hope interception to open the ball game, the Scots would march 48 yards on 5 plays culminating in a Davin Reif 1 yard touchdown run. That score held until the end of the first quarter. An interception gave the Flying Dutch solid field position, and the result was a 38-yard field goal to bring things to 7-3. Alma responded early in the 2nd with an 8 play, 67-yard drive with an Eddie Williams touchdown to cap it off. Hope responded with a pick six and a long touchdown drive resulting with a touchdown to give the visitors a 17-14 lead at the half.
The second half saw the offenses pick up. The Scots scored immediately out of the half on a 60-yard strike from Carter St. John to Ty Lotterman. Alma found the endzone one more time with a 36-yard pass to Williams from St. John. Hope connected on a field goal in the 4th quarter, and managed to scored a touchdown, bringing the score to 28-26 after a 2 point try failed. It all came down to a final drive with under 2 minutes to play. Hope had the ball and was moving towards midfield, when the Scots defense was able to come up with a huge sack and force a turnover on downs to ice the game.
Carter St. John led the Scots air attack, going 14 of 26 for 232 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Eddie Williams paced the ground game with 17 carries for 59 yards and a touchdown. Ty Lotterman was the top receivers with 2 receptions for 69 yards and a touchdown, with Eddie Williams adding 59 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Odin Soffredine led the Scots defense, which came up with several huge turnovers and stops in the game. He recorded 16 tackles. Jack Kretzschmar and Elijah Jackson each recorded 10 tackles. Key sacks came from Trevor Underhill and Matt Oswald. The lone interception came on the part of Gage Nelson.
Alma hits the road next week to continue conference play against Kalamazoo. Kickoff is set for 2 PM.
