Hillsdale, Mich- The Alma College track and field team concluded the three day GINA Relays at Hillsdale College on Saturday (Apr. 24). The Scots earned points in both the men's and women's competition.
For the women, Grace Hearth finished in sixth place in the triple jump with a mark of 9.99 meters. Mariah Dunkin took fourth in the discus throw with a toss of 38.82 meters. Hearth's jump was an outdoor personal best, while Dunkin's throw was a personal record.
On the men's side, freshman Elijah Jackson took third place in the shotput with a toss of 13.93 meters. Denver Jewell also earned points in the same event with a toss of 12.86 meters, which was good enough for seventh place. Both were personal bests.
When asked to reflect on the past three days, head coach Matt Chovanec had this to say: "We decided to go to Hillsdale to not only get one more chance to perform before the MIAA Championship, but also to give our teams a chance to compete at a bigger meet with higher level competition. I'd say we did quite well. There were a number of lifetime bests for our student-athletes, and if they weren't lifetime bests they were definitely season bests. Now we'll take the next couple of weeks to focus on final exams, get healthy, and tune up for the championship. It's exciting to everyone that we get to have it at home this year. It should be another great opportunity for us."
Alma will have a weekend off before hosting the MIAA Outdoor Championships on May 6-7. The meet will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday (May 6) and 10:00 a.m. Friday (May 7).
