Box Score CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Alma College baseball team beat Wabash College Sunday, 10-7, to complete a three-game series sweep over the hosting Little Giants. The Scots earn their fourth-straight win of the year to bring their overall record up to 4-3 on the season.
Joshua Robinson had a great day at the plate, hitting 3-for-5 while driving in four runs for Alma. Aaron Saenz earned the win by pitching six innings while giving up three earned runs. Saenz's record improves to 2-0 on the year through two starts on the mound.
After Wabash opened up the scoring in the first, the Scots started to get things going in the third. Jaret Koin led the inning off with a double and then Robinson later drove him in on sacrifice fly. Zach Schirmer then stepped into the batter's box with two outs and one on and drilled a ball over the left field wall for his first home run of the season to put Alma in front, 3-1.
In the fourth, the Scots put the first three batters on base for Koin who pushed across a run on a fielder's choice. Kevin Tuttle would drive in another run on a single. Robinson then came up with two outs and knocked a 2-RBI double to left center to give Alma a commanding 7-1 advantage.
The Little Giants cut the deficit down to four until Koin stepped up to the plate with two outs and bases loaded in the seventh. The senior was hit by a pitch, a category that he holds the program record for, to send another runner home and make it 8-3 Scots.
In the eighth, freshman Stephen McGlade knocked in a run for Alma on a single. The final run for the Scots came in the ninth with Robinson earning his fourth RBI on the day.
On the mound, Ty Sobczak came in relief for the second-straight day and closed out the final three innings for the Scots. The Little Giants were able to get the tying runner into the on-deck circle but the junior was able to shut it down from there to earn the road series sweep over Wabash.
Koin led the team with three runs scored. Along with Robinson; Schirmer, Tuttle, and Macguire Hawley all had multiple hits for the Scots.
Alma heads to Wittenberg University on Sunday, March 14th for a doubleheader stating at 12 p.m.
