Springfield, OH- The Alma College baseball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to the Wittenberg University Tigers on Sunday (Mar. 14). The Scots (4-5) fell in game one 8-7, and lost game two 11-6.
In the first game, the Tigers got two runs in the bottom of the first before the Scots answered with six runs in the top of the second inning. Jaret Koin drove in two runs with a double down the line to score Nolan Chillcut and Macguire Hawley. After Noah Hamilton scored on a failed pickoff attempt, sophomore Avery Carnicom hit a two run home run to drive in Koin and put the Scots ahead 6-2. The Tigers would respond with a run in the fourth inning and three more in the bottom of the seventh. The Scots would get a run back in the eighth inning with a Hamilton single down the line to score Stephen McGlade. The Tigers would respond in the bottom half of the inning with two more runs, and would hold on for the victory.
On the mound, senior Dylan Dzendzel got the start and went six innings. His final line was three runs, four hits, five walks, and seven strikeouts. Game two saw Alma fall behind 8-0 after the first inning. They would get two back in the top of the second inning thanks to a Jacob Cornman home run that scored Zach Schirmer.
