ALMA, Mich. – The Alma College men's basketball fell in a barnburner of a game Wednesday at Art Smith Arena to the Olivet College Comets by a score of 80-79. The game came down to the final shot with Nate Deyman lofting up a 3-pointer that would have won the game for the Scots. However, the shot missed and Alma lost the one-point contest.

Alma were led by a 26-point performance from Cole Kleiver who also added nine rebounds and three assists. Brandon Rake added 18 points and nine rebounds. Matt Lark, who was honored before the game in a senior ceremony, tallied 11 points. Isaiah Williamson posted 10 points and three assists. Gabe Bourdeau provided a solid game off the bench with five points, nine rebounds and three assists.

The game was a back-and-forth affair with 10 lead changes and neither team going up by more than single digits. Alma took a 36-34 advantage heading into halftime thanks to an incredible shot by Bourdeau who banked in a 3-pointer just before the buzzer.

One of the highlights of the game came in the final minutes with Kleiver setting up Rake for a beautiful dunk that made it a five-point game. The Comets pushed their lead up the six with under a minute remaining. Kleiver responded with a deep make from beyond the arc and then later two free throws to make it 80-79 with 20 seconds left.

Under 10 seconds to go, Olivet missed both of their shots from the line to give the Scots an opportunity to win the game. But the Scots were not able to execute the final play and they came up short to split their season series with Olivet at one a piece this season.

Alma finishes off its regular season at Adrian College on Saturday for a 3 p.m. tip off.
