ANGOLA, Ind. – The Alma College track and field team started its indoor season off at Trine University on Saturday. The women finished in third out four teams with 88 team points while the men finished in fourth place with 52 points.
For the women, Charley Hengesbach placed second the shot put with a toss of 11.86 meters. Hengesbach also set a new personal record in the weight throw with a toss of 14.04 meters that earned her third place.
Bailey Hoffman took second in the weight throw and fourth in the shot put.
The Distance Medley Relay team of Cornelia Gotaas, Victoria Austin, Elizabeth Gotaas, and Haley Trickey ended up with a second-place finish and a time of 14:29.86.
Grace Hearth placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 8.99 meters.
Cornelia Gotaas ran the 800 meters in 2:32.14 to earn third place.
Stephanie Davis grabbed third place in the 60-meter hurdles. Andrea Taghon finished right behind in fourth. Taghon also placed sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 29.51 seconds.
Mariah Dunkin grabbed fourth in the weight throw and fifth in the shot put.
For the men, Nolan Rowland took third in the pole vault by clearing the 3.95-meter bar.
Sean Pauley set a personal record time of 16:25.07 in 5,000 meters while earning fifth place.
Freshman Ross McNeel earned sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 53.49 seconds.
Nathan Idalski finished in the top 10 of the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:08.65.
"It was nice to have some normalcy back in our schedule again. Our last meet was February 29th of last year," Head Coach Matt Chovanec said. "We had some solid performances all the way around, and it is nice to head into practice next week with something to build on. Like I told our team today, we just need to compete, learn, and enjoy. Those three words can carry us a long way."
The Scots are back in action again next weekend when they head on the road for a pair of jamborees. The men compete on Friday, February 19 at Calvin University and the women compete on Saturday, February 20 at Trine University.
