OLIVET, Mich. - The Alma College wrestling team opened up their 2021 season at Olivet College for the MIAA Individual Championships. The Scots had one champion, while four wrestlers overall made it to the finals.
Junior Jayce Kuehnlein won all four of his matches on the day on the way to being crowned champion of the 157 lb weight class.
Matt Tomsett, Austin Wieczorek, and Chase Beecher all earned trips to finals, however they all came up just a bit short and took runner-up in their respective weight classes.
Outside of the first place matches, none of the other placement matches took place due to COVID-19 restrictions. Finishing in the top 8 of their weight classes were:
Joey Devarus and Zachariah Kelley at 125 pounds.
Carter Hankins and Nicholas Dawson at 133 pounds.
Steven Davidson at 141 pounds.
Zachary Jandereski and Mason Priest at 149 pounds.
Owen Atienza at 157 pounds.
Jacob Smith at 165 pounds.
Joe Vondrasek at 174 pounds.
Clayton Todd at 184 pounds.
Dillon Stevenson and Gus Richter at 197 pounds.
Charlie Prescott in the heavyweight class.
The Scots will head back to down to Olivet for the the Comets' Invivitational on Sunday, February 7th.
