GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – The Alma College men's basketball team opened up their 2021 campaign with a 99-65 loss to Calvin University at the Knights' Van Noord Arena Tuesday night. Alma drops to 0-1 while Calvin is 1-1 on the year. The game did not count towards the MIAA conference standings. 

Junior Cole Kleiver scored 21 points while going 11-of-12 from the free throw line. The Williamston native also added a team-high four assists.

Junior Isaiah Williamson also reached double-figures with 10 points. Sophomore Casey Constant grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Youth was on display for Alma as the freshmen trio of Xavier Bargesser, Gabe Bourdeau, and Xavier Glenn all had plenty of minutes on the floor. Sophomore Nate Deyman made his first career start after appearing in only five games last season.

Junior Alex King played in his first career game and scored in the final minute of the contest.

"Calvin came out aggresive on both ends and we weren't ready to compete." Head Coach Ryan Clark said. "We have a lot of learning yet to do and that was not up to the standard we hold for ourselves. That's on me as a head coach as much any player tonight." 

The Scots are back in action on Thursday, January 21 for their home opener against Trine University.
