Box Score Kalamazoo, Mich. - Jeny Brandt (Escanaba, Mich. / Escanaba) was dominant for the Alma College women's basketball team as the Scots came up with a big 70-58 win over Kalamazoo College on Saturday (Feb. 22). The win secures a postseason berth for the Scots for the second straight season.
Brandt led all players with 19 points and 17 rebounds, including six offensive boards. It's her seventh double-double of the year, third in her last five games, and the most rebounds she's ever had in a collegiate game.
The Scots (12-13, 7-9 MIAA) pulled away from Kalamazoo with a big fourth quarter in which they outscored the Hornets 23-15. Alma shot 54 percent in the last ten minutes and held Kalamazoo to 26 percent from the field; Brandt scored seven and made all three of her shots. She and Hannah Thelen (Pewamo, Mich. / Pewamo-Westphalia) played the entire quarter.
Oretha Humphries (Detroit, Mich. / Detroit Edison Public) nearly notched her first career double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Jackie Jarvis (Fowlerville, Mich. / Fowlerville) had 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting off the bench.
Alma forced Kalamazoo to shoot 33 percent from the field in the game and outrebounded the Hornets 52-32, including 17-9 on the offensive end. Alma had 58 points in the paint and at the free throw line combined.
The Scots will face Calvin in the first round of the MIAA Tournament. It will take place at Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids on Wednesday (Feb. 26) at 7:00 p.m.
