Box Score Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's basketball team came up short 74-53 to Albion College on Wednesday (Jan. 15) evening.
Alma was stifled in the second half by the conference-leading Britons (12-2, 3-0 MIAA) and made just six shots from the field.
Ryan Stevens (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell) led Alma (7-7, 1-2 MIAA) with 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Kyle Woodruff (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Holly) added 11 points off the bench.
Albion's Quinton Armstrong and Caden Ebeling each scored 18. Cortez Garland scored 15. All three shot over 50 percent. Ebeling also pulled down 16 rebounds.
The Scots led by four at the half after a late surge. In five possessions, Alma hit four three-pointers and-one layup to push a two-point lead up to 10. Before the run, Alma was 1-of-9 from deep.
The two teams battled for the lead in the early stages of the second half before Albion began to expand it to double digits. After Stevens hit two free throws and a jumper to pull to within two, Albion scored the next 15 points to all but end the game.
The Scots return to action on Saturday (Jan. 18) when they travel to Olivet. The Comets are 3-11 overall and 0-3 in the MIAA thus far. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
