Women's Basketball Falls to Trine

Box Score

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's basketball team dropped a 56-38 decision to Trine University (IN) on Sunday (Jan. 12).

Jeny Brandt (Escanaba, Mich. / Escanaba) led the Scots (7-8, 2-4 MIAA) with 13 points and five rebounds. Oretha Humphries (Detroit, Mich. / Detroit Edison Public) added nine. She, Madison Hill (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek) and Emily Long (Dayton, Ohio) each pulled down four rebounds.

Alma led 12-11 after one quarter as it held Trine to 40 percent shooting and managed to get Kelsy Taylor into foul trouble. The Thunder fought back with a 16 point second quarter to lead 23-27 lead at the half.

The Scots fell further behind in the third quarter after being called for nine turnovers, five of which were either called travels or offensive fouls; this helped to prevent Alma from finding its rhythm in the second half, in which it shot 30 percent.

Tara Bieniewicz led all players with 14 points. Shay Herbert pitched in 12 for the Thunder (10-4, 4-1 MIAA)

Alma returns to action on Wednesday (Jan. 15) when it travels to Albion to take on the Britons at 7:30 p.m.
