Holland, Mich. - The Alma College track and field team began competition at the MIAA Championships on Thursday (May 2). Six different Scots qualified for eight different events and four athletes set new personal records.
Twelve of the twenty events were preliminaries, the other eight were for points. The women sit in sixth place with 15 while the men have yet to score.
How It Happened
- Alma was led by Charley Hengesbach (Saginaw, Mich. / Nouvel Catholic Central) who tossed a new personal best in the shot put at 12.13 meters, finishing third.
- Aubrey Hemstreet (Portage, Mich. / Portage Central) came through with a fourth-place finish in the 10000 meter run at 39:33.02, taking nearly two full seconds off her previous best time.
- Bailey Hoffman (Olivet, Mich. / Olivet) also placed in the shot put, in fifth with a throw of 11.65 meters.
- Stephanie Davis (Elmira, Mich. / Gaylord) set a new personal record in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:14.83, beating her previous best by over one second. She also qualified in the 100-meter hurdles.
- Audrey Padilla (Manistee, Mich. / Manistee) finished the 400-meter dash in 1:03.56, a new fastest time for her.
- Jacob Wildenhaus (Jackson, Mich / Lumen Christi), Zane Stanton and Kyle Kraus (Middleville, Mich. / Thornapple-Kellogg) all qualified for the 110-meter hurdles, with Wildenhaus leading the way at 15.84.
- Stanton also qualified for the 400 hurdles at 1:00.41. Kraus just missed a spot in the finals with a time of 1:01.18, though he did take three seconds off his time in his second-ever attempt at the event.
