Alma, Mich. - The Alma College men's basketball team fell to the Wisconsin Whitewater Warhawks 70-66 at Art Smith Arena on Saturday (Dec. 7) evening. Trailing by three, the Scots had two chances to tie the game in the last thirty seconds but could not convert. The Warhawks then hit the front end of a one and one with 2.1 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
Senior Kyle Woodruff (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Holly) led the Scots off the bench with 19 points and seven rebounds. Woodruff also added two assists in his 34 minutes of action. Fellow seniors Steven Harvey (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern) and Zach Sinke (Grand Haven, Mich. / Grand Haven) had 11 points each. Sophomore Cole Kleiver (Williamston, Mich. / Williamston) chipped in 10 points and added three assists. As a team, the Scots shot 38.5 percent from the field, while only shooting 28.6 percent from three-point range. The Scots outshot the Warhawks at the charity stripe, going 80 percent from the free-throw line.
The Warhawks were led by Equan Ards. The junior guard had 27 points in 30 minutes of action on 12-18 shooting. Also scoring in double figures for the Warhawks was Trevon Chislom with 16 points. The Warhawks shot 50 percent from the field.
Alma has a week off before traveling to Carthage College (WI) on Saturday (Dec. 14). Tip off is set for 6:00 pm.
