Battle Creek, Mich. - The Alma College women's golf team finished round one of the MIAA Fall Finale in sixth place on Saturday (Oct. 12) morning with a score of 352. The round began on Friday (Oct. 11), but play was suspended due to rain at the Bedford Valley Golf Club. The Scots are sitting 18 strokes behind fourth-place Olivet College with one round remaining. Calvin University is seven strokes ahead of the Scots for fifth place. Saint Mary's currently leads the field with a team score of 307.
The Scots were led by senior Jennifer Kowalczyk (Northville, Mich. / Northville). Kowalczyk shot an 83 to finish the round in a tie for 12th place. Behind her was freshman Morgan Yates (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd) with a score of 86 and tying for 25th place. Next was junior Kirstyn Cotton (Midland, Mich.Midland) with a score of 90. That put her in a tie for 34th place. Sophomore Ava Gardiner (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) finished with a first-round score of 93, putting her in a tie for 43rd. Finishing the scoring for the Scots in the first round was junior Grace Grelak ( Canton, Mich. / Salem). Grelak shot a 96 and finished tied for 46th place.
Round two of the MIAA Fall Final began at noon and is currently in progress. The Scots will look to finish among the top four teams for a spot in the conference's spring championship.
