Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Alma College track and field team travelled to the campus of Calvin College on Thursday (March 29) for the Double Dual featuring the host Knights and Hope College.
Freshman Grace Hearth (Freeland, Mich./Valley Lutheran) led the Scots with 11 points in the meet.
The women's team finished second in the meet by defeating Calvin. The men's team finished third.
What Happened
- Junior Erin Goggins (Hastings, Mich./Hastings) won the pole vault with a new school-record performance, rising up to 3.42 meters.
- Grace Hearth earned two victories: jumping 1.50 meters in the high jump and finishing the 100-meter dash in 13.31 seconds. Hearth's 11th point came in a third-place performance in the 200-meter dash.
- Freshman Charley Hengesbach (Saginaw, Mich./Nouvel Catholic Central) earned eight points for the women's team, winning the shot put at 10.91 meters and finishing second in discus.
- Sophomore John Mitrzyk (Standish, Mich./Standish-Sterling) won the long jump, landing at 6.45 meters, then followed with a third-place performance in the 100-meter dash.
- The men's team also claimed the triple jump in the meet with sophomore Payton Hirschenberger's (Freeland, Mich./Saginaw Nouvel) 12.78-meter performance.
- Two Scots walked away from the Double Dual with second-place performances. Senior Karen Flesh (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) finished one centimeter behind Hengesbach in the shot put while sophomore Jacob Wildenhaus finished the 110-meter hurdles in 16.02 seconds.
- Jeffrey Schlicker, Kate Merlo, Blaire Showers, Timothy Minier, and Audrey Padilla each earned one point for their team with third-place performances.
