Box Score Greencastle, Ind. - Sophomore Chase Hunyadi (Pepper Pike, Ohio/University School) scored 15 seconds into the second overtime on Saturday (March 24) to lift the Alma College men's lacrosse team to a 9-8 victory over DePauw University.
The Scots (3-7 overall) battled wintry weather conditions of every variety and played the second half in a driving snowstorm to close out their non-conference schedule, while Hunyadi led all players with four goals and an assist for five points.
Junior Jared Nycz (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) also notched a hat trick with a season-high three goals and recorded a pair of helpers for five points.
Junior Cameron Stelljes (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) stopped seven shots in goal for the Scots.
How It Happened
- Jared Nycz put Alma on the board less than two minutes into the game, scoring off a pass from Chase Hunyadi to make the score 1-0. DePauw answered with three straight goals to take a 3-1 advantage after the first 15 minutes.
- In the second quarter, Alma opened the frame with back-to-back scores by Nycz to tie the game. DePauw regained the lead at 4-3 with 10:12 remaining in the half, only to see the Scots tie it again with 3:42 to play on a goal by Trevor Bailey. The Tigers went back up by a goal less than a minute later, but Chase Hunyadi scored with 2:21 left in the half to tie the game at 5-5 heading into the break.
- Alma took the lead 1:06 into the second half when Hunyadi scored off a pass from Nycz, but DePauw battled back, scoring twice within 20 seconds to go up by a 7-6 margin with 9:49 to play. Hunyadi tied the game with 3:25 left in the third, sending the teams into the fourth quarter deadlocked at 7-7.
- In the fourth quarter, the Tigers took an 8-7 lead with 11:59 to play, but the Scots tied the game just over four minutes later when Austen Irrer found the net for the first time this season to tie the game at 8-8 and force the extra session.
- Hunyadi's goal in the second overtime came on a breakout from the opening face-off. As the Scots entered the offensive zone, Connor Alley drew the goalie towards the far side of the net, leaving Hunyadi all alone on the right side of the cage for the catch and score.

- This is Alma's first-ever meeting with DePauw.
- The game marked the Scots' first-ever double-overtime contest.
- Chase Hunyadi now has two OT game-winning goals in his career. His first was on March 22 against Wooster (OH).
- Connor Alley pushed his point streak to four games with an assist, and has 2-4–6 totals in that span.
- Jared Nycz scored a season-high three goals for his first hat trick of the year. He now has 89 career goals, 11 shy of becoming the first player in program history to score 100. Nycz has also score in four straight games, including two or more goals in his last three contests.
- Daniel Buchy saw his three-game goal scoring streak stopped, but notched an assist to extend his point streak to four games.
- Hunyadi has scored in five straight games, including two or more goals in three straight appearances. He now has 20 goals this season and 65 for his career.
- Austen Irrer returned to the lineup after missing the first nine games with an injury. Irrer scored one goal, tying the game in the fourth quarter, while registering five shots.
- Trevor Bailey recorded a goal and an assist for his seventh multi-point game of the season. The helper was Bailey's first as a Scot.
