Angola, Ind. - The Alma College track and field team travelled to Trine University for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday (Feb. 24). The Scots finished in seventh place in the men's and women's events.
Junior Erin Goggins (Hastings, Mich./Hastings) and freshman Torres Ingraham (Nassau, Bahamas/Northview (AL)) each led their respective teams with runner-up finishes. Goggins finished second in the women's pole vault, while Ingraham was second in the men's long jump.
What Happened
- Goggins took second place in the pole vault, clearing the bar set at 3.10 meters.
- Ingraham placed second in the long jump, soaring past his previous personal-best (6.76 meters) and landing at 7.09 meters, just narrowly missing first place.
- Senior Karen Flesh (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) placed third in the shot put, tossing for a personal-best 11.73 meters.
- The women's distance medley relay team of sophomore Blaire Showers (Ithaca, Mich./Ithaca), junior Lauren Kucharczyk (Livonia, Mich./Churchill), freshman Callie Jones (Mason, Mich./Mason) and senior Chelse Van Spronsen (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) opened the meet taking a third-place finish in 13:17.62.
- Van Spronsen also claimed fourth in the 3000-meter run, clocking in at a personal best 10:40.15.
- Sophomore Jacob Wildenhaus (Jackson, Mich./Lumen Christi) finished the 60-meter hurdles in 8.70 seconds to place fourth and finished within .01 seconds of a new personal-best.
- Sophomore Payton Hirschenberger (Freeland, Mich./Saginaw Nouvel) claimed fifth place in the triple jump, dropping in at 12.89 meters.
- Freshman Grace Hearth (Freeland, Mich./Valley Lutheran) earned two seventh-place finishes, one in the 60-meter dash and one in the high jump.
- Sophomore John Mitrzyk (Standish, Mich./Standish-Sterling) placed seventh in the men's long jump, landing at 6.39 meters.
- Senior James Taylor (Mason, Mich./Mason) placed eighth in the shot put, hitting a mark of 13.07 meters.

Notables
- Nine different Scots scored points in the championship meet. Three of those Scots did so by breaking previous personal records.
- Ingraham's jump of 7.09 meters came on his first attempt, but had to be shut down after his second attempt due to injury.
