Women's Basketball Falls at No. 11 Trine

Angola, Ind. - The Alma College women's basketball team fell to No. 11 Trine University on Saturday (Jan. 20) afternoon. Alma is now 1-16 overall and 0-9 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Trine is 16-2 and 8-1 and sits in second place in the conference behind undefeated Hope.

Emily Eldridge (Battle Creek, Mich. / Battle Creek Lakeview) led the Scots in scoring with 12 points while Jeny Brandt (Escanaba, Mich. / Escanaba) finished two points shy of a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Kayla Freeman led all scorers with 14 points off the bench for the Thunder. Hayley Martin tallied 11 as the only other Trine player in double figures. Eighteen players saw action for the Thunder and 12 registered points.

How It Happened

  • Trine led 16-9 after one quarter, with Chloee King (Standish, Mich. / Standish-Sterling Central) leading the way for the Scots with three points. The second quarter saw the Thunder shoot 46 percent from the field and score 20 points en route to a 36-19 halftime lead. King and Jessie Jordan (Mason, Mich. / Williamston) each had five points for Alma at the break.
  • Eldridge went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the third quarter to lead Alma in scoring. She also tallied a steal. Eldridge added to her total in the fourth quarter with three field goals and six points.

Notables

  • Mikayela Johns (LeRoy, Mich. / Cadillac) and Hannah Syme (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Eastern/Calvin College) each saw significant action in the second half. Each played for ten minutes, a season-high for Johns and the most for Syme since Dec. 16 at Saint Mary's.
  • Madison Hill (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek) is tied for the conference lead in assists per game with 4.3.
  • Jessie Jordan has made a three-pointer in each of her last seven games.

Up Next

The Scots remain on the road for their next two games. They will travel to Olivet to face the Comets on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. before taking on the Hornets in Kalamazoo on Saturday, Jan. 27.
