Brandt Scores Career-High in Loss at Albion

Albion, Mich. - The Alma College women's basketball team dropped a 71-40 decision to Albion College on Saturday (Jan. 13) afternoon. Alma is now 1-14 overall and 0-8 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association while Albion improves to 11-4 and 5-2.

Jeny Brandt (Escanaba, Mich. / Escanaba) led all players with 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting and 4-of-6 from the free throw line. She also tied for the game-high with six rebounds. Ashtyn Maniez (St. Louis, Mich. / St. Louis) chipped in eight points off the bench while Emily Eldridge (Battle Creek, Mich. / Battle Creek Lakeview) totaled six.

Rain Hilton and Evelyn Wischmeyer tallied a team-high 12 points for the Britons as Wischmeyer added six rebounds and Brittany Leutz posted 10 points and five assists.

How It Happened

  • Both teams started the game cold - they shot a combined 7-of-30 from the floor including 2-of-12 from three-point range. Madison Hill (Midland, Mich. / Bullock Creek) played all ten minutes for Alma and scored three points, while Chloee King (Standish, Mich. / Standish-Sterling Central) pulled down three rebounds. The score was tied at nine at the end of the frame.
  • The Britons found their groove in the second quarter, scoring 22 points on 8-of-18 shooting. Brittany Leutz, one of six players to score in the quarter for Albion, led the team with six points. They took a 31-18 lead into the half.
  • The Scots fared better from the floor in the third quarter, connecting on 71.4 percent of their shots. Brandt didn't miss a shot in the quarter, going 3-for-3 from the field and 1-for-1 at the line. However, Albion built up a 27 point lead by the end of the quarter as it went 11-of-12 from the free throw line and made seven shots from the floor.
  • The Scots held Albion to 14 points in the fourth quarter but were not able to stage a comeback. Both Brandt and Maniez scored five points in the period.

Notables

  • Jeny Brandt's 16 points and six made field goals are both career-highs.
  • Albion registered assists on 20 of its 25 made shots from the field.
  • Both teams made at least 80 percent of their free throws; Alma went 8-of-10 and Albion went 17-of-21.
