Mount Pleasant, Mich. - The Alma College track and field team travelled to the campus of Central Michigan University for their annual Jack Skoog Invitational on Friday (Jan. 12).
The men's team claimed victory over Davenport University 65.5-57.5 at the invitational. By NCAA rules, Alma and Davenport were scored separately from Central Michigan, Oakland University, and the University of Detroit-Mercy.
What Happened
- Sophomore Payton Hirschenberger (Freeland, Mich. / Saginaw Nouvel) placed third in the triple jump, posting a new collegiate career-best of 12.54 meters.
- Sophomore John Mitrzyk (Standish, Mich. / Standish-Sterling) placed fifth in the long jump, setting a new career-best of 6.49 meters.
- On the track, freshman Torres Ingraham ran the 60-meter dash in 7.15 seconds for the second consecutive meet, good for sixth in the event.
- In the pole vault, junior Erin Goggins (Hastings, Mich. / Hastings) picked up where she left off from the SVSU Holiday Classic on Dec. 2, finishing tied for eighth at 3.05 meters.
- Senior Chelse Van Spronsen (Jenison, Mich. / Jenison) placed 10th in the 3000-meter run, finishing ahead of six division-I and II runners with a time of 11:18
- Over at the shot put pit, senior James Taylor (Mason, Mich. / Mason) set a new indoor career-best toss of 12.50 meters, just short of making the finals round in the men's event. Sophomore Madison Swope (Jackson, Mich. / Northwest) took 10th in the women's event, throwing for 9.36 meters.
- In the one-mile run, sophomore Blaire Showers (Ithaca, Mich. Ithaca) posted a time of 5:40.05, good for 11th, ahead of six division-I opponents. Junior Justin Jones (Rockford, Mich. / Cedar Springs) took 12th, setting a new personal-best at 4:39.79 while defeating six division-I and II runners.
