Olivet, Mich. - The Alma College wrestling team placed fifth out of eight teams on Saturday (Feb.11) at the Mid-States Invitational, hosted by Olivet College.

Parr-Besemer defeated Allen Betts of Wabash College in the semifinals with a technical fall of 18-2 and went on to defeat Olivet College's Garret Cleveland, 19-12, for the first place title.

At 133 pounds, freshman Noah Lopez (Hartland, Mich./Hartland) placed second after falling to fellow freshman Brendan Ladd (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon) in the first-place match. Ladd pinned Evan Hoshaw of Olivet College in the quarterfinals and won via forfeit in the semifinals, leading him to the finals against Lopez, where he won by 5-2 decision.

Freshman Jake Anderson (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester Adams) placed sixth at 141 pounds after taking an injury default in the sonsolation semifinal to Brandon Conrad of Heidelberg University, leading to his forfeit in the fifth-place match.

Senior Trent Hullett (Jackson, Mich./Parma Western) was the Scots' final victor of the day with a first-place finish at 184 pounds. Hullett began the day with a 8-2 decision win over Mark Maldonado of Wabash College before scoring a 1:44 fall over Chris Wilson of Wasbash in the quarterfinals.
