Box Score Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Alma College men's basketball team opened the second half of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schedule with a victory on Saturday (Jan. 28) afternoon, defeating Kalamazoo College, 65-54, at the Anderson Athletic Center. The Scots improve to 9-10 overall and 5-3 in the MIAA with the victory, while the Hornets fell to 6-12 and 2-6 in league play.
Freshman Ryan Stevens (Lowell, Mich./Lowell) scored a game-high 21 points, hitting 7 of his 11 shots, while senior Tyler Edwards (Flint, Mich./Swartz Creek) was the only other Scot in double figures, netting 10 points while collecting a team-high six rebounds.
The Scots, which recorded a 107-63 victory over the Hornets on January 4, led by as many as 14 in the first half and weathered a Kalamazoo comeback attempt, with the Hornets pulling within three points on a couple of occasions. Alma struggled from the floor, hitting 34.8 percent of its shots, but made 26 of its 30 attempts from the free-throw line to keep its distance.
The Scots return to Art Smith Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 1, to host Adrian College in the second half of a home doubleheader. The game has been designated as the annual Pink Game, which recognizes and supports the Angel Wings Foundation. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Earlier this season, Alma recorded a 79-76 victory at Adrian.
