Scots Outscore Calvin in Last Three Quarters but Fall 62-52

Box Score

Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Alma College women's basketball team fell to Calvin 62-52 at Van Noord Arena Wednesday evening. Abbigale Philipson (Hemlock, Mich./Hemlock) led the team with 14 points, two off her career high, and six rebounds.

The Scots (5-13, 3-6 MIAA) outscored Calvin (17-2, 8-2 MIAA) 47-43 in the final three frames, but were outdone by the Knights 19-5 in the first quarter. Alma shot 50-percent from the field in the first half and held Calvin to 36-percent shooting.

The Scots cut the lead to five with 2:51 left in the third quarter after a Tara Padgett (Freeland, Mich./Freeland) steal and layup but Calvin closed the quarter on a 9-0 run to regain a 14 point lead en route to the win.

Alma turned the ball over six times in the second half and forced seven turnovers from Calvin. Padgett tallied four steals in the game, moving her into seventh place on the all-time program list with 147, past Katey Peacock and former teammate Mallory Pruett.

The Scots return to action this Saturday when they travel to No. 6 Hope College for a game at 3 p.m. Alma fell 66-52 to the Flying Dutch when they were ranked No. 7 in the nation earlier this season.
