Box Score Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Alma College women's basketball team is rounding out its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) games with one game left to play after their loss today in the Van Noord Arena against Calvin College.
The Scots were defeated by the Knights, 91-56 bringing their overall record to 9-15 and falling to 4-11 in the MIAA. Calvin improved to 19-5 on the season and 12-2 in the league.
Alma came out of the gates strong in the first quarter as senior Raeanna Zink (Frankenmuth, Mich./Frankenmuth) and junior Tara Padgett (Freeland, Mich./Freeland) put up eight points a piece. Alma was leading Calvin 23-21 but Calvin came out of the quarter break going on a 21-9 run to go in to the half with the 10 point lead, 42-32.
The Knights did not stop after that holding Alma to just four points in the third quarter and scoring 34 of their own. The Scots were in too far of a deficit to comeback, ultimately being brought down 91-56.
As a team, Alma shot 40.4% from the field, while only being able to hold Calvin to 50.7%. The Scots nabbed 34 rebounds, recorded 13 assists and snagged seven steals.
Senior Kassidi Adams (Montrose, Mich./Montrose) and Padgett both paced the way for Alma with 15 points. Zink added 10 points and led the squad with seven boards while freshman Kassidy Blough (Jackson, Mich./East Jackson) dished out four assists.
Alma will conclude their season this Saturday (Feb. 20) in Angola, Ind. The Scots will look to cap off their season with a win against Trine University, for the second time this season. Tip-off time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
