Box Score Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's basketball team fell to Defiance College 64-57 on Friday evening in its first home game in 20 days. The Scots are now 2-9 on the year while the Yellow Jackets improve to 5-6.
Alma trailed the entire game but cut the Defiance lead to two at the 8:13 mark of the fourth quarter. The Yellow Jackets then went on a 7-0 run to extend its lead back up to nine. Later in the fourth quarter, the Scots cut the deficit down to five after a Kaitlyn Kendall (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) three-pointer and a a Tara Padgett (Freeland, Mich./Freeland) free throw, but were not able to get any closer.
Padgett finished the game as the team's leading scorer with 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting, three rebounds, three steals and two assists in 24 minutes. She continues to climb the all-time steals list as she now has 133 in her career, two behind seventh-place Ann Sheedy. Kendall finished with nine points, three rebounds and three steals.
Kelsey Wolffis (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) scored 11 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked four shots, adding to her all-time total. She has 89 blocks in her two-year career, two behind second-place Meagan Hobblet. Wolffis is also leading the MIAA in blocks per game with 2.7 and is second in rebounds per game with 7.5.
Alma takes the court again this Wednesday as it resumes conference play against Olivet at 6 p.m. The Comets are 0-11 this season and the Scots split the season series against them last year.
