Women's Basketball fights back but falls 63-53 to Adrian

Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's basketball team found themselves down early against the Adrian College Bulldogs and could not overcome the 19 point deficit they had going in to half time. The Scots would cut the lead to as close as four points but the Bulldogs would eventually walk out of Art Smith with the 63-53 victory.

At the conclusion of the night the Alma College women's basketball team snapped a two game winning streak and now stand 6-11 on the year and 1-8 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). Adrian improved to 8-9 in the 2015-16 campaign and rose to 5-4 in the league. 

Alma trailed the entire contest trailing by as many as 21 points in the first half. The Scots found fire in the second half outscoring Adrian 13-9 in the third and out rebounding them in the quarter for the first time the entire game. 

After a made three-pointer by junior Kaitlyn Kendall (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) the Scots cut the lead to 57-53 with 1:53 left to play in regulation. Adrian would hold on to the lead and defeat the Scots 63-53.

Kendall led for the Scots with 18 points, scoring a season-high. Freshman Kelsey Wolffis (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) also scored in the double digits with 11 points. Wolffis also brought in the team high seven rebounds and four blocks. 

It was close shooting for the two teams as Alma was out shot by a small margin shooting, 36.4 percent and Adrian went 24-65 at 36.9 percent. The Scots were out rebounded by the Bulldogs 46-31.

  • Kaitlyn Kendall scored a season high of 18 points.
  • Any game the Scots have shot under 40 percent they have lost.
  • Kelsey Wolffis is leading the league in rebounds with 46 blocks, picking up four more today.
  • The Scots are leading the league in three-point percentage at 35.6 percent.
  • Kaitlyn Kendall is second in the league in three-point percentage shooting 41.5 percent from behind the arc.
