Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's basketball team played their tightest game in years against #18 Calvin College but the Knights pulled away in the second half defeating the Scots 67-49.

After the loss Alma falls to 4-10 overall and 0-7 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association while Calvin improves to 12-3 overall and keeps their unblemished MIAA record at 7-0.

Senior Raeanna Zink (Frankenmuth, Mich./Frankenmuth) led the team with 13 points and freshman Kelsey Wolffis (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) followed close behind with 12 points. Zink also led the way in the rebounds category with seven. 

After 10 lead changes in the first quarter alone the Alma Scots were leading the Calvin Knights by one, 16-15. In the second quarter Alma allowed Calvin to go on a 17-6 run giving them the 33-24 advantage with 2:08 left to play in the half. Alma went in to the half trailing by nine points, 36-27 and Zink was leading the squad with 10 points in the first half alone. 

The Scots cut the lead to as low as five points in the third quarter but Calvin managed to pull ahead in the fourth quarter defeating the Scots by 18, 67-49.

As a team Alma shot 43.2 percent from the field and held Calvin to just 31.1 percent. The Knights did out rebound Alma 44-36 and the Scots dished out 11 total assists. 

Today marked the first of a five home game stretch for the Alma College women's basketball team. Alma will turn around and host Siena Heights in a non-conference match on Monday (Jan. 18). The tip-off time is slated for 7:00 p.m. 

GAME NOTES:

• Kelsey Wolffis has recorded a block in every game but two this season.
• Raeanna Zink scored in double figures for the seventh time this 2015-16 campaign. 
• Alma shot in the 40 percent range for the seventh time this season.
