Alma Men's Lacrosse thumps Defiance 19-3 on Thursday afternoon and improve to 3-2 on the season

Box Score

On Thursday afternoon, the Alma College Men's Lacrosse team traveled to Defiance College to take on the host Yellowjackets in a non-league match. The Scots jumped on the home team early en route to a 10-0 halftime lead and ultimately a 19-3 final margin of victory.

With the win, Alma improved to 3-2 on the season, while Defiance fell to 0-5 in 2015.

"Today was a good win for the program, as it allowed us to get a lot of our young players the reps they need to help us on the field later," said Alma Head Coach Michael Kinney. "I couldn't be more proud of these guys with the way they are working and how they are committed to each other on and off the field. We keep adding pieces of the puzzle so we can be in the hunt later on in the year."

Just 1:52 into the game, Sr. M Tyler Bennett (New Lothrop/New Lothrop) scored unassisted to give Alma a 1-0 lead. With the Scots leading 4-0 after one quarter, the Scots' Jr. M/A Marshall Argenta (Stafford, NY/Notre Dame) scored 59 seconds into the second frame to make it a 5-0 contest. The final goal of the first half came from Jr. A Stephen Salceda (Dousman, WI/St. John's NW Military Academy) at 2:11 to make it 10-0 heading into the break.

The second half was more of the same for the road team. Jr. M/A David Foster (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) made it 11-0 at 12:22 of the third quarter and the Scots led 15-0 before Defiance finally got on the board with 2:30 left in the frame.

In the fourth quarter, Fr. A Bryce Bohrmann (Grand Rapids/Pennfield) made it 16-1 at 1:08 and then the Yellowjackets scored two consecutive to make it a 16-3 contest. The game ended with Alma scoring the final three goals, the last being So. M/A TJ Miller (Brighton/Brighton) with just 10 seconds remaining, to make a final of 19-3.

Miller and Bohrmann each had three goals, while Bennett, Argenta and So. M/A Josh Sejat (Grand Rapids/Northview) notched two a piece. Fr. A/M Quentin Ellis (Vernon, CT/Rockville) finished with one goal and two assists in the win.

Alma next plays on Saturday afternoon when they host Bethany College (WV). Start time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Bahlke Field.
