The Alma College Wrestling team braved the elements on Saturday morning, traveling to Olivet College to take part in the Mid-States Championships. Behind three individual champions, the Scots took third place in the seven-team field, finishing the afternoon with 140.5 points. Wabash College (IN) won the event by nearly thirty points, finishing the championship with an impressive team score of 191.0.

No. 7 Sr. Matt Tuttle (Reading/Reading) was nearly unstoppable at 165, he recorded a 7-5 decision and two fall victories en route to claiming the title.
Similarly, No. 9 Jr. Jamie Jakes (Dearborn/Divine Child) was dominant at 174, tallying two decision victories before earning the crown with a major fall in the championship match.
At 197, Sr. Jared Groeneveld (Allendale/Allendale) took home first after advancing through the bracket with three decision victories, including an impressive 8-2 decision win in the championship bout.
Fr. Cameron Daniels (Rochester/Rochester) advanced all the way to the finals at 285, while Sr. Zac Case (Battle Creek/Pennfield) made it to the championship match at 133.
Sr. Collin Lesko (Tecumseh/Tecumseh) took home third at 125, earning a 13-8 victory in the deciding bout.
Next up for Alma will be the NCAA Division III Midwest Regionals on February 28th at Wabash College (IN).
