Box Score Adrian, Mich. - The Adrian College Bulldogs sank their free throws at the end of the game to give the Alma College women's basketball the 66-63 defeat tonight in the Merillat Sports and Fitness Center at Adrian College. Tonight was the first game of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play and the Scots dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the MIAA while Adrian improved to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the MIAA.
The Adrian Bulldogs led at the beginning of the first quarter but a three pointer from junior Tara Padgett (Freeland, Mich./Freeland) with 1:34 left in the first quarter knotted the ball game 13-13. Alma took the lead in the second quarter after junior Kaitlyn Kendall (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington) sank two free throws with 6:37 remaining in the quarter. Adrian would go on a 13-6 run of their own to take the lead at the half 34-31.
Another three-pointer from Padgett with 5:11 to go in the third tied the ball game up for a fourth time at 40-40. A 10-4 run by the Bulldogs pushed them to a tight knit 50-44 lead heading in to the fourth quarter. Alma did not regain the lead again but came within striking range after a made layup by Kendall to cut the game 64-63 but two made free throws from Adrian's side gave Alma their first conference lost 66-63.
Freshman Kassidy Blough (Jackson, Mich./East Jackson) led the team with a career-high 14 points and freshman Kelsey Wolffis (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) notched her second double digit score of the season with 10 points and led the team for the third time with seven rebounds.
