Muskegon, Mich. - Senior Caleb Huff (Sturgis, Mich./Sturgis) won the 184-pound weight class at the Ben McMullen Open, which took place on Saturday (Nov. 7) at the Bartels-Rose Gymnasium in Muskegon. No team scores were kept at the event, and a number of junior varsity wrestlers from Alma participated.
For Huff, it was his second time winning at the McMullen Open. As a freshman in 2012, Huff won the 149-pound weight class.
Huff won all four of his matches during the event, scoring a 5-2 decision over Grand Valley State University's Matt Roos in the first round before defeating Tyran Jolly of Lincoln Community College by fall in the third period of the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Huff won by injury default in the third period over Niagara Community College's Anthony Liberatore. Huff dominated in the championship match, scoring 16 points to defeat Lincoln CC's Logan Hagerbaumer by a 16-11 decision.
The Scots are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 14, participating in the Trine Invitational.
