The Alma College Wrestling team welcomed NAIA Davenport University to the Art Smith Arena on Thursday evening for an exhibition match. The Scots handed the Panthers the 30-12 defeat at home, despite resting a majority of their varsity wrestlers.

This is the first year of competition for the Davenport University Wrestling team, and the lack of numbers showed on Thursday, as the Scots won four matches by forfeit.

Alma found itself down 9-6 after the first four matches, but two back-to-back forfeits followed by a Sr. Paul Mikhjian (Rochester Hills/Rochester Adams) victory at 174 would give the Scots a comfortable 21-9 lead.

Jr. Caleb Huff (Sturgis/Sturgis) would collect a victory at 184, followed by a Sr. Jared Groeneveld (Allendale/Allendale) win at 197, to stretch the Alma lead to 30-9 with just one bout remaining.

The Panthers managed to take the final match 3-0, to leave the Art Smith Arena with the 30-12 loss.

The Scots return to action again on Saturday, Nov. 22, when they travel to Olivet College to take part in the Olivet Duals.
