Scots wrestling team wins Mid-States Championship hosted by Alma College

On Saturday, the Alma College wrestlers hosted to six teams from throughout the midwest region in the Mid-State Championship meet. The Scots earned a total of 203 points throughout the day, putting them in first place out of seven.

Of the ten weight classes in the meet, four of them were championed by Alma College wrestlers. So. Tyler Foley (New Hudson, Mich./South Lyon East), So. Matt Tuttle (Reading, Mich./Reading), Fr. Drew Barnes (Dexter, Mich./Dexter) and Fr. Adam Robinson (Mason, Mich./Mason) wrestled exceptionally all meet long to eventually top all other competitors within their respective weight classes. 

To begin the day, Foley won his first bout of the day by pinning his opponent in 2:08 before a major decision 8-0 for his second match. Foley's eventual victory would come over teammate So. Casimer Strzynski (Ludington, Mich./Ludington) who was coming off a major decision 16-3 and a close 8-7 ecision. Both competitors wrestled unbelievably all day long and it was a great sight to see so much talent and sportsmanship vying for the top stop at 125 pounds.

Tuttle was tenacious all day at 165 pounds, winning all three of his matches by pin for a total time of 6:41. The first two pins came less than one minute into the bouts and his third and final pin was in the sixth minute at 5:40. Barnes had a bye in the first round 174 pounds before winning his first bout on the day by major decision, 9-1. He then won by decision, 14-10 and pinned his opponent for first the first place nod in 2:53. Robinson, ranked in the nation at 285 pounds, continued his series of phenomenal rookie performances beginning with a pin in 3:47 in his first bout. He then won by technical fall, 15-0 before earning his second pin of the day for the championship title at 2:17.

Overall, all of the Scot wrestlers performed to the best of their ability and it showed at the end of the day when Alma College's name stood alone at the top of the leader board. 

The Scots will next participate in the NCAA Division III Regionals on March 2.
