The Alma College wrestling team took part in the Ohio Northern Invitational on Saturday and came away in fourth place out of 12 teams in the competition. It was a solid effort all around for Head Coach Todd Hibbs' squad with five-top five finishes, including two champions.
"We had some real quality efforts today and have a couple of championships to show for it," remarked Hibbs. "I am proud of how our kids performed and am really excited for Sr. Matt Tuttle (Reading/Reading), Jr. Tyler Foley (New Hudson/South Haven East) and for a few others that did really well."
Tuttle won a hard-fought championship at 165, and had four falls en route to the win. In addition, Tyler Foley won a championship at 125, including an exciting final against Olivet's Alfred McKeown.
Other notable finishers for the Scots included Fr. Dan Martinez (Westland/Benjamin Franklin), who finished fourth at 133, Jr. Zac Case (Battle Creek/Pennfield), who was fifth at 133 and So. Jamie Jakes (Dearborn/Divine Child), who finished fifth at 174.
Next weekend, a roster of mostly JV athletes will take part in a competiton at North Central.
