The Alma College wrestling team traveled to Olivet College on Saturday morning to participate in the Olivet College Comets Duals. The Scots went 1-2 on the afternoon, defeating Ohio Northern 22-18 while falling to Wisconsin-Whitewater (18-21) and Heidelberg (13-25).
"We are proud of how our guys battled today," said Alma Head Coach Todd Hibbs. "The Olivet Duals are always a featured event on our schedule - all the matches are tough all the way to the end."
"We were able to get our first program win over Ohio Northern and I'm proud how we battled against nationally-ranked Heidelberg," commented Hibbs. "We lost all the close matches today and my team knows that in order to win a dual like this we need to win those close ones."
"I am also proud of how our guys performed against Wisconsin-Whitewater, they were third in the nation last year and are ranked this year and we were able to get a few wins versus them, so that is a definite positive moving forward."
Sr. Matt Tuttle (Reading/Reading) continued his dominance at 157 on Saturday, winning all three of his matches by pin.
Fr. Cory Livingston (Otsego/Otsego), who was not set to participate on Saturday, was called upon to wrestle against Ohio Northern. Livingston, who wrestles are 184, was asked to bump up to the 197 weight class to take on Ohio Northern's Kody Bellamy. Livingston took on the challenge and defeated his opponent 14-5 in a key match in Alma's lone victory on the day.
"I am very proud of how Cory performed today, Hibbs said. "He was called upon to perform and he did."
