Alma Wrestlers finish second at Elmhurst Invitational on Saturday

On Saturday, the Alma College Wrestling team competed in the Elmhurst (Ill.) Invitational and had an outstanding day, finishing second out of nine teams on the afternoon. The Scots finished with 126.5 points, just a half point behind the host Blue Jays, ranked second in the country.

"It was a terrific day for our program and I am very proud of where our program is right now," said Alma Head Coach Todd Hibbs. "We came in hoping to fight for a top three finish but we did better than that which is exciting. We battled to the wire with the number two team in the nation and it came down to the final match and that says a lot about where we are right now."

The Scots had one winner and four runners up as they put pressure on Elmhurst all afternoon. So. Tyler Foley (New Haven, Mich./South Lyon East) won at 125 pounds, which was his first championship.

Four grapplers finished second on Saturday - So. Jared Groeneveld (Allendale, Mich./Allendale) at 184, Fr. Trevor Maresh (Northville, Mich./Northville) at 197, Fr. Adam Robinson (Mason, Mich./Mason) at 285 and Jr. Matt Tuttle (Reading, Mich./Reading) at 165.

Next up for the team is the Alma Open next Saturday at Art Smith Arena. The competition is full and will begin at 8:30 a.m.
